The diameter range of C46400 copper wire varies according to application requirements and production standards:


Single wire specifications:

Bare copper wire or tinned copper wire, diameter range 0.10-0.80 mm

Extended specifications:

A wider diameter range of 0.1-3 mm is available, suitable for special needs such as wire, welding rod, etc.

International standards

C46400 copper wire follows the following international standards:


ASTM standards:

ASTM B21: Specification for naval brass bars, rods and shapes, covering the mechanical properties and chemical composition of C46400.

ASTM B124: Applicable to forged copper alloy bars, including cold-worked products of C46400.

ASME standards:

ASME SB-171: Copper alloy plates for pressure vessels and condensers, indirectly related to the process of processing C46400 plates into wire.

Government standards:

QQ-B-637: Clarifies the technical requirements for C46400 wire, bars and forgings.


Chemical composition

Copper (Cu): 59.0%–62.0% (core component)

Tin (Sn): 0.5%–1.0% (key additive, improving corrosion resistance)

Zinc (Zn): balance (about 37.5%–39.25%)

Lead (Pb): ≤0.20% (improves processability)

Iron (Fe): ≤0.10% (impurity limit)

Other trace elements: extremely low or undetectable content of aluminum, manganese, nickel, etc.


Normal state (not heat treated)

Tensile strength: 345–607 MPa

Minimum value: 345 MPa (annealed state)

Typical value: 379–450 MPa

Maximum value: 605 MPa (cold worked state)

Yield strength: 125–455 MPa

Annealed state: 125–140 MPa

Cold worked state: 455 MPa

Elongation: 15%–50%

Annealed state: 35%–50%

Cold worked state: 15%–18%

Hardness: 80–200 HB (Brinell hardness)

Annealed state: 80 HB

Hard state: 200 HB

Specially treated state

Hardened treatment: tensile strength up to 900 MPa, yield strength 490 MPa, elongation 15%.
